Telford, Pennsylvania – September 1, 2015 – Secant Medical’s research involving the controlled release kinetics of poly(glycerol sebacate) (PGS) has been accepted for presentation at the 2015 TERMIS World Congress in Boston, Massachusetts. Carissa Smoot, Scientist at Secant Medical, will present the poster titled, “Controlled Release Kinetics of Vitamin Loaded Poly(glycerol sebacate),” on September 10 during the Sunrise Poster Session 4.
“The delivery science and technology of controlled release has been around for decades and only continues to grow,” said Carissa Smoot. “Poly(glycerol sebacate) has a promising future in controlled release. As a surface eroder, PGS demonstrated zero-order release and a controllable degradation profile.”
Smoot’s presentation will focus on multiple formulations of PGS with vitamin B12, discussing the degradation and vitamin release profiles as well as the polymer cure time and vitamin concentration. Secant Medical offers a research grade version of PGS branded as Regenerez®, which is a next generation bioresorbable resin that serves as a platform for regenerative medicine, offering the potential to create a more favorable environment to promote tissue regeneration.
