Secant Group (Telford, PA) recently hosted a group of high school cadets from Valley Forge Military Academy to help develop their understanding and awareness of the diversity of career paths available in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math. Secant Group engineers medical textiles and biomedical structures that enable repair, recovery, and regeneration of the human body. Over the course of the day, the cadets learned from textile engineers, mechanical engineers, chemists, and information technology professionals about how their work helps improve the quality of life for patients. The students got a first-hand look at how various implantable medical devices components are made and tested. They also learned about the quality and validation systems and processes that need to be in place to ensure a defect-free component.
Valley Forge Military Academy (Wayne, PA) is a private, independent, college preparatory school with a military tradition offering grades 6 through 12 with day and boarding options.
“Secant Group has made many advances in textile engineering and science and holds several patents for game-changing technology”, commented Carlos Valdes, Vice President, Quality and Technical Services. “However, we know that even more innovations will come in the future by the next generation of scientist and engineers. We are committed to helping inspire future innovators through events like this.” Secant Group also has an intern program in relationship with local universities. Through his program, students get the opportunity to gain skills and experience in various STEM related fields.
