Secant Medical Releases Regenerez® Antimicrobial Study Results

Telford, Pa. – February 2, 2016 – Secant Medical releases new study results for a series of Regenerez®-based materials which exhibit >99.99% antibacterial activity against a range of bacterial species.  Results from JIS Z 2801 antimicrobial activity and efficacy test demonstrate the antibacterial properties of Regenerez, with respect to commonly occurring organisms in surgical site infections; including MRSE, MRSA, S. epidermidis and P. aeruginosa, with log reduction values of >3.5.

“We are excited by the antibacterial activity of Regenerez,” said Jeremy Harris, Research Director at Secant Medical. “With tunable mechanical properties and the ability to inhibit bacterial growth, this material may address several critical biomedical engineering needs of scientists, researchers and engineers.”

Regenerez resin is a fully-synthetic, bioresorbable, surface-eroding polymer, composed of poly(glycerol sebacate). It is synthesized from the naturally occurring metabolites glycerol and sebacic acid using Secant Medical’s proprietary manufacturing process to produce a consistent, quality product, which is detailed in a FDA master file.

Secant Medical will be exhibiting at MD&M West, February 9-11, 2016, at booth #2371. The company’s team will present the Regenerez study results as well as showcase a variety of polymeric and metallic biomedical structures that can be used in the design of medical devices for cardiovascular, general surgery, neurovascular and orthopedic indications.
